Day 9 – Thieves Dish Soap

I love, love, love Thieves dish soap. Today, I’ll be sharing how you can make your soap last longer. I typically get two bottles out of one!

Thieves dish soap is free of toxic chemicals. It consists of a plant-based formula that cleans well, but also is safe for you and your family. It also has 100% therapeutic-grade essential oils. Like most Thieves cleaning products, it is super concentrated so you only need to use a little.

Here is a list of ingredients that are typically in our dish soaps we purchase from the store.

  • SLS and SLES (sodium lauryl sulfate) – strips skin of its natural oils causing irritation to skin and eyes. Can also cause damage to lungs. Provides the bubbles in most cleaners.
  • Formaldehyde – enhances smell of soap. It is a respiratory irritant and can cause chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing, has been linked to increased asthma in kids, and may also cause cancer.
  • Phosphates – helps remove grease and grim. Too many phosphates can cause liver damage and can be extremely poisonous to aquatic life (we end up eating some of this aquatic life). Over exposure can be fatal.
  • Fragrance – hormone disruptors, asthma triggers, carcinogen. Fragrance can pass through the skin and blood. Fragrance can hide on label and be called over 100 different words.

Even the beloved Mrs. Meyer’s brand isn’t super safe. On the Think Dirty app, it scored a 4 which means half ingredients safe half are not. It contains sulfates and other toxic ingredients as well.
