Day 11 – Thieves Hand Soap

Especially right now, hand washing has never been more important. I know my little one loves to wash and play in the water. That is why it is important for me to use soap that I can trust is safe for those little fingers.

Here me out here, I know we all love our Bath & Body Works soap, but I’m begging you, if you are going to ditch and switch any item, this would be the one. Over time, these toxic chemicals can really cause damage. Please keep reading and consider ditching. You don’t even have to purchase this particular soap, just find one that doesn’t contain these chemicals! Most chemicals on the market have not been tested or researched until they are linked to something bad.

Here are a few toxic ingredients that are in most soaps. Even “green” or “natural” soaps.

  • Fragrance – We’ve talked about how terrible fragrance is, especially for youngsters. It can cause or worsen asthma and respiratory issues, can disrupt hormones, and can pass from skin to blood. These just are a few effects of fragrance.
  • Parabens – Parabens can mimic estrogen which can increase breast cell division and growth of tumors. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer.
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) – SLES can cause irritation to eyes, skin, and lungs when used for long periods of time. It works as a cheap foaming agent. It can be contaminated by a possible carcinogen, 1,4 Dioxide. In 1990, a study found that 82% of cosmetic products and 85% of dish washing products contained SLES. • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) – strips skin of its natural oils causing irritation to skin and eyes. Provides the bubbles in most cleaners.
  • Methylisothiazolinone & Methylchloroisothiazolinone – Thes chemicals are used as a preservative in shampoos, cosmetics, laundry detergent, soaps, and many other home cleaning products. This has been known to cause nerve damage. A study was done on rat brain cells after being exposed only after 10 minutes. It was concluded that it is highly toxic to cultured neurons. This causes an increased risk of seizures and vision problems. This just scratches the surface of a FEW toxic ingredients found in most of our hand soaps. We cannot avoid everything. We can’t live in fear, but we can protect our homes from these chemicals. We might avoid a hardship down the road.

So let’s talk about Thieves hand soap and how to make it last longer.

Thieves is a gentle foaming soap without the toxic chemicals. The Thieves blend of Clove, Lemon, Rosemary, Cinnamon, and Eucalyptus essential oils is complemented by the addition of Lemon and Orange. As with all Young Living products, these oils are pure, undiluted therapeutic-grade. You can trust that your family is keeping clean with this natural, plant-based product, free of sulfates and synthetic ingredients that commonly dry out skin. The best part, is that you can remake with just a few ingredients. Here’s how.

Make your Thieves soap last longer

Simply add these ingredients to your Thieves soap bottle or new bottle. I use my previous bottle of Thieves soap and when there is still a little left in the container, I mix all these together to keep the foaminess.

Ingredients you will need:
– 1/3 of Castile soap
– 10 drops of Thieves essential oil
– 5 drops of lemon essential oil
– 5 drops of orange essential oil (optional I like to add)
– pinch of baking soda (if you want more foam)
– fill with water & shake

After I mixed 🙂
